Biography
Bobbie Jo Seamster, Licensed Professional Counselor, is currently the owner of Healing Minds Therapy- outpatient counseling practice for children and adults serving the Martinsville, Henry County, Pittsylvania County, Danville City, Franklin County, and Patrick County areas. She has also supervised many staff and served as the clinical assessor/supervisor for many local agencies which provide mental health support and Intensive In home counseling services to the adult and child population in Martinsville, Henry County, Danville, and Rocky Mount areas. Bobbie Jo has also been a clinical director with another mental health company where she managed staff and supervised two mental health programs servicing children and adults (Medicaid and underprivileged population). Bobbie Jo has also provided teaching and trainings on several mental health courses throughout area regions.
Bobbie Jo has an Associates of Arts and Science degree from Patrick Henry Community College, majoring in psychology. She then graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in College and Community Counseling through Averett University, also completed internship at Blue Ridge Rehabilitation working with Alzheimer patients and their families. At Averett University, Bobbie Jo majored in clinical psychology and behavioral research. In Dec. 2002, she graduated from Longwood University with a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology, where she also worked with the Martinsville Hospital inpatient psychiatric unit providing counseling and assessments for adults and substance abuse groups. She also worked with Hospice at Martinsville Hospital conducting bereavement counseling groups to families. Bobbie Jo later attended Liberty University for further professional development and received her LPC (licensed professional counselor) from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Upon her continuation for professional development, in Dec. 2007 she received her LPC in the State of North Carolina as well.
During her years in graduate school, she worked at the Department of Social Services in Martinsville as a social worker and child abuse investigator. Upon receiving her Master’s degree in clinical psychology, Bobbie Jo began her employment with the local mental health community service board in Martinsville. She conducted outpatient counseling to children, adolescents and their families for many years. She also helped to develop a free- state funded program to children who were victims of child abuse. Bobbie Jo provided trauma and grief counseling to these children over a period of 2 years through the state grant. She has extensive knowledge with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, bereavement, and sexual abuse. She has been to extensive trainings on sexual abuse, Bipolar, trauma, grief, personality disorders, anxiety and depression. Currently, Bobbie Jo is completing her doctoral degree in research, mental health, and psychology thru Capella University.
Bobbie Jo opened Healing Minds Therapy counseling business in July 2012, with strong hopes of servicing children and adults in need of mental health counseling and emotional support in the Martinsville, Henry County, Danville, Pittsylvania County, Patrick County, Franklin County, and Chatham local areas.
